Valley International Airport Board Chairman Elected, New Board Member Named

Dr. Jim Rowe has been elected chairman and Rick Ledesma has been appointed to the board of Valley International Airport. Rowe, owner of the Harlingen Eye Clinic, has been on the board since February 2001 when he was appointed by Mayor C. Connie de la Garza. Ledesma, president of DataLogic Software, Inc. begins a five year term and was appointed by Mayor Rick Rodriguez. Dr. Rowe is a valued community leader and will do well as chairman of the airport board, said Mayor Rodriguez. He understands the transportation needs of our area and the importance of Valley International Airport to our future.

Mr. Ledesma brings a strong set of informational technology skills to the board and his experience and knowledge will benefit us all. The growth in our region makes my involvement with the Valley International Airport board very active and worthwhile, said Dr. Rowe. The airport is an incredible asset in the City of Harlingen and the Rio Grande Valley and we will continue to work on our vision of becoming a regional transportation hub by continuing our growth of non-stop service to Austin, Houston, San Antonio and Minneapolis and add more destinations as soon as we can. Dr. Rowe is very active in the community including service as a past member of the Harlingen City Commission from 1990 to 1998, the Ronald McDonald Charities Board of Directors, Harlingen Boys & Girls Club, Harlingen Rotary Club, American Heart Association Board of Directors and Leadership Harlingen to name a few.

The Rio Grande Valley is well served by Valley International Airport, adds Ledesma. I will work hard with the other board members to make sure we stay ahead of the competition for passenger, cargo and shipping needs in our community. Ledesma is an advisory board member of the Computer Science Department at TSTC and is chairman of the Harlingen Arena Committee. He founded DataLogic Software, Inc., in Harlingen in 1987 and created a specialized software product for the national home health care market. The other members of the Valley International Board of Directors are Gordon Hall, Manny Vela and Bryan Duffy. Valley International Airport reported a passenger increase of almost 11% overall in and an air cargo increase of nearly 82% in 2004 and serves Southwest Airlines, Continental Express, Sun Country Airlines, DHL, Federal Express, UPS, BAX Global and Menlo Worldwide.
