Sam Coats Appointed to Harlingen Airport Board
Harlingen Mayor Chris Boswell on Thursday announced the appointment of lawyer, airline executive, and restaurant CEO David Samuel (Sam) Coats to the Harlingen Airport Board, which operates Valley International Airport. Because of Sams experience and his relationships with people in the airline industry, he will be a huge asset to the airport board and our prospects of enhancing service to Valley International Airport, Mayor Boswell said. I am very pleased that he has agreed to serve in this capacity.
Coats airline industry experience is extensive. He served as Senior Vice President of Continental Airlines during one of the most dramatic service and financial turnarounds in airline history. His stint as President and CEO of PROS Revenue Management, the worlds leading provider of airline revenue management software, involved working with more than 80 airlines, including more than half of the worlds largest carriers. Other airline experience includes serving as CEO of Southern Cross Airline Holdings (Compass Airlines) in Australia, President of Muse Air Corporation, Vice President for External Affairs for Southwest Airlines, Senior Vice President for Braniff Airways, and Vice President, General Counsel, and Secretary for Texas International Airlines.
Sam Coats most recent leadership positions include serving as CEO of The Sammons Travel Group in Dallas, one of Americas leading package tour operators, and as the Restructuring CEO of Schlotzkys, Inc, of Austin. In addition to his fast-paced career as a corporate CEO and turnaround specialist, Coats has a strong commitment to public service. He has served one term in the Texas Legislature, was chairman of the North Dallas Chamber of Commerce, chairman of the Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau, and has served on the boards of the Salvation Army, the Greater Dallas Chamber of Commerce, and the Circle Ten Council, Boy Scouts of America. Coats is a native of Harlingen, Texas. He currently lives in Dallas with his wife, Judy Allen Coats.
Harlingen citizens in 2006 approved an amendment to the Citys Charter, enlarging the Harlingen Airport Board and eliminating the geographical restriction of living in Harlingen. This change makes it possible to recruit people like Coats who have knowledge and experience that will increase our opportunities to better serve existing customers and win new business for Valley International Airport, Mayor Boswell observed.
I had the opportunity to visit with Mr. Coats last night and expressed my excitement about having him join our team, said Manny Vela, Harlingen Airport Board Chairman. I know hell be a tremendous asset to our organization. For more information, contact Mayor Chris Boswell at (956) 428-9191 (office) or (956) 498-3676 (mobile).
