Vela Elected Chairman, Duffy Named Chair Pro Tem For Harlingen Airport Board
Manuel M. Vela, senior vice president and chief legal officer for Valley Baptist Health System has been elected chairman of the Harlingen Airport Board of Directors and Bryan Duffy, managing partner of Robinson, Duffy & Barnard, LLP was named Chairman Pro Tem. The airport board sets long-range policies and strategies for Valley International Airport, the regions largest passenger and air cargo facility.
Vela joined the board in February 2003 and as an active community leader, brings years of experience as a business and leisure traveler to the position. Valley International Airport is an important catalyst to the economic well being of the entire Lower Rio Grande region, said Vela. My goals for my term as chairman include maintaining a high level of security, adding new destinations and increasing the level of customer service and I look forward to the work ahead.
Vela has been with Valley Baptist Health System since September 2003. Prior to joining the health system, Vela was in private practice in Harlingen since 1998. Vela is active in professional associations included serving on the Cameron County Bar Association Board of Directors and the American College of Healthcare Executives. He is also on the board of the UTB-TSC Development Board, The STARS Steering Committee and the Texas State History Museum Foundation to name a few. Vela was appointed by Gov. Rick Perry to the Texas Council on Autism and Pervasive Developmental Disorders. Vela is a graduate of Harlingen High School, the University of Texas at Austin where he also earned his law degree.
Duffy is the managing partner of Robinson, Duffy & Barnard, LLP where he has been a partner since 1996 and is also a partner in CenterLine Properties, LLP, a commercial real estate brokerage firm. He has served as Seargent-at-arms for the North Harlingen Rotary Club, vestryman of St. Albans Espicopal Church, school board member of St. Albans Episcopal Day School, director of the Harlingen Board of Realtors, and is currently on the Harlingen Planning and Zoning Commission. Duffy is a past Chairman of the Harlingen Industrial Foundation Inc., and past President of the South Texas Chapter of the Appraisal Institute. He is a graduate of Texas A & M University and holds a masters degree in Land Economics and Real Estate.
