Passengers Traveling with Fresh Fruit Requirements
Passengers transporting fresh fruits need to read the information below. Be sure your fruit package has the seal from USDA with stamp TX-117, otherwise it will not be accepted for transportation.
In an effort to contain the Mexican Fruit Fly within the infested areas of Texas, a quarantine was initiated to regulate all movement of the host fruit. Movement of host fruit is prohibited into or through all 50 states. Only fruit certified by USDA-APHIS-PPQ, in accordance with Mexican Fruit Fly Quarantine Regulation, may be allowed movement. Violations of the Mexican Fruit Fly Quarantine could result in penalties being assessed. A package containing the host fruit from an approved shipping establishment is eligible for unrestricted movement when certified with a numbered stamp, TX-117. For more information contact the local USDA office in Harlingen at 956-421-4041.
