VALLEY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT ANNOUNCES NEW BOARD MEMBERS & AVIATION SECURITY MANAGER

(June 21, 2013) HARLINGEN, Texas – Valley International Airport (VIA) is announcing the appointment of Julie Ezell-Perez, Dr. Mark J. Kroll, Ricky Leal and Vicki Moore to its board of directors. The appointments allow VIA to have a full, nine-member board with each member serving a five-year term. The airport board sets long-range policies and strategies for VIA, the largest airport in the region.

Ezell-Perez is a partner in the law firm of Ezell & Ezell, PLLC. She practices in the areas of wills, estate planning, estate and guardianship administration, real estate law, family law and general civil practice. She has been active in her community by serving as a former chairperson of Leadership Harlingen, several terms on the board of directors of the Harlingen Rotary Club and Junior League, and as a counselor to Rotary Youth Exchange students.

Kroll is dean of the School of Business and professor of management at the University of Texas at Brownsville. He has worked and taught overseas, and over the course of his career, has published more than 60 peer-reviewed journal articles, 80 papers, and five books on strategic management. His research work primarily focuses on corporate governance and the role of top management teams in determining the performance of young, entrepreneurial firms.

Leal has eight years of experience in commercial banking and five years of experience as a United States Air Force officer, bringing cultivated management and leadership skills to the VIA board of directors. In the Air Force he specialized in munitions and missile maintenance, achieving the rank of captain. He also serves as president of the Rotary Club of Harlingen and actively participates in the community.

Moore is executive vice president for Vantex Holding Corp. in Dallas. She played a significant role in the expansion and redesign of Centennial Fine Wine & Spirits stores, and has been named Retailer of the Year by Beverage Dynamics Magazine and Market Watch Magazine. She was also a director of the Texas Package Store Association and served on its legislative committee.

VIA is also pleased to introduce its new aviation security manager, Michael A. Sullenger, a 43-year veteran law enforcement officer who retired as a major from the Air Force with 20 years of service. Sullenger has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, a master’s in international relations, and taught at Texas State Technical College for 11 years. He is the current chief instructor for the American Karate System with a lifetime of training in martial arts. Sullenger is a Texas-certified master peace officer, instructor, range master, and crime prevention officer.

“We are delighted to welcome our new board members and believe their expertise across diverse industries and proven leadership will serve Valley International Airport well,” VIA Chairman of the Board Richard Franke said. “Their unique insights further strengthen our board and position the airport on a trajectory of exciting momentum and growth.”

“We take pride in our outstanding personnel. Chief Sullenger is very well credentialed and already proving to be a significant asset for the airport. We are fortunate to have someone with his skill set and background managing security for VIA,” Valley International Airport Aviation Director Michael Browning said.
