Southwest Airlines adds direct flight to LAS VEGAS, NV effective NOV 8, 2010
Flight 181 will depart Harlingen at 8:45am and arrive in Las Vegas at 11:40am. Flight 996 will depart Las Vegas at 11:20am and arrive in Harlingen at 5:45pm. Both flights operate as “thru” flights with a short stop in Houston.
One of the main advantages of this new schedule is that it will offer additional connections to more Southwest Airlines markets on the west coast like Boise, Portland, Seattle and to some of the Los Angeles area airports with no previous connections like Burbank and Ontario. In addition, for those desiring to go skiing, a great connection to Salt Lake City is now available with the Las Vegas flight. Southwest offers 2 free bags per passenger and open seating. On the Harlingen to Las Vegas leg, the Harlingen passengers will have the option to change seats in Houston before the local passengers board. Passengers using this new flight will save an additional airport tax which is charged when using connecting flights versus a direct flight.
The Chicago direct flight will continue to Detroit and the return leg originates in Minneapolis with the new schedule that was unveiled yesterday.
The new schedule greatly supports the needs of the customers in the Rio Grande Valley, by offering great times to/from our most popular destinations. Chicago and Las Vegas are Southwest Airlines’ top two stations with over 220 daily flights each. From each of these cities, Southwest Airlines offers service to more than 50 non-stop destinations. The new flight addition and the Chicago flight to start this coming August 15, 2010, are welcomed news for the passengers in our region as well as the cargo customers.
